Church History

Pentecostal Revival Center was founded in September 1973 because there was no Full Gospel church in the area at that time. In 1973, Basil Crippen, one of the original founders of the church was working on and elderly woman’s property. She came outside and asked that he take her to church with him the following Sunday. He simply answered that he didn’t have a church to go to in the area and didn’t put much thought into it. Some time later the elderly woman passed away and he was left feeling regret for not taking her to church one last time. This situation became a stirring that motivated a small group of people to begin to meet and a church was birthed. The church was founded with the goal that the Spirit of God could flow freely.

On June 23, 2002 Pastor Ken Schoonover, a man fresh out of Valor Christian College in Columbus, OH with a degree  in Pastoral Studies, came to pastor Pentecostal Revival Center. When he arrived at Pentecostal Revival Center, God had big plans to change the small church with only 12 people in regular attendance.

In 2002 Kids World Ministry was founded by Pastor Ken and his wife Amanda Schoonover. The children’s ministry began to rapidly grow and still continues to grow. With the spiritual needs of the kids being met in children’s ministry the need for youth ministry became apparent. Commission Youth was founded in 2003 by Pastor Ken Schoonover to minister to the youth in the local community. In 2004 Kids World Daycare & Preschool began with just one child and Pastor Ken and Amanda’s vision to have a Christ centered facility where children could be both cared for and educated. Kids World Daycare & Preschool continues to grow as well with Amanda Schoonover as the Executive Director ensuring that children are given quality care in an educational atmosphere.

Harvest of Hope International was founded by Pastor Ken in 2004 as a missions outreach to 10 countries including the US. The goals of Harvest of Hope are to meet the people’s spiritual needs and their physical needs by providing food, education, and medical care.

The Compassion Center

In 2005 God began to speak to Pastor Ken about feeding the community, not only spiritually but physically as well. On August 15, 2007 the building that houses The Compassion Center was purchased. The building began renovations immediately and The Compassion Center opened its doors in 2008. The Compassion Center is now Tioga County’s largest food distribution center, feeding hundreds of individuals and families every month.

In January 2008 God put a vision in Pastor Ken to “take care” of the seniors by providing clean, safe housing for them. The Heritage Center built on the property of Pentecostal Revival Center and opened its doors on June 15, 2008.

In 2011 Renovations began on the West Wing of the building beautifying the main foyer and adding a Maintenance Department. Along with the changes to the building, in September of 2011 a karate class began on the property of Pentecostal Revival Center and was named Combat for Christ. Combat for Christ combines basic martial arts principles with Biblical principles and Scriptures to encourage the students to learn, grow, teach and inspire confidence.

As the ministry continued to grow both Kids World Ministry and Kids World Daycare & Preschool began to need more room to accommodate the classes that are held. In April of 2012 construction began and we started building The East Wing. In August of 2012 the east wing of the building was completed and now provides plenty of space for Kids World to continue grow.

The Voice Radio

The Voice Radio

God has continued to expand the borders of this ministry and on October 13, 2013 we saw one of the biggest expansions yet. Pastor Ken became the President/CEO of The Voice 107.1 FM in Whitneyville, Pa. The Voice is Tioga County’s only Christian Radio station and is focused on reaching the surrounding areas with the good news of Christ by becoming a voice to the people.

Today Pentecostal Revival Center is the largest church in the Cowanesque Valley Region. God has truly blessed the church and it has continued to grow over the years and still continues to grow as it reaches the community with the love of Christ. We are excited to see what God will do next!
